Carnivorous plant care
Carnivorous plants require damp, boggy conditions. Most plants can be placed on a saucer of water to keep the soil moist. This will also create humidity.
- Always use rainwater as the chemicals and minerals in tap water can cause damage. Ensure the water isn't cold as this can also harm the plant.
- Most plants need to be in a fairly bright location out of direct sunlight. Sundews and Venus Flytraps will benefit from direct sunlight. If your notice your sundews are not producing sticky sap try placing them on a brighter window sill that gets direct sunlight.
- A lot of carnivorous plants are temperate so they may go dormant in the winter. To help them rest place them in a cooler, darker spot and minimise watering.
- Keep the levels of humidity medium to high.
- They grow best in soil with low nutrients. so an ericaceous soil or specialist compost mix should be used if you will be repotting your plants.
- Any dead pitchers and traps can be removed.
